Who are the Hundwandlers?

David Campbell

David is an internationally recognized concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. He has performed in over forty countries, made countless radio broadcasts for the BBC and Classic FM and appeared on television. He has also made a great many CDs and plays with Britain’s foremost chamber ensembles. David is passionate about music education, giving numerous masterclasses and encouraging young musicians at the start of their careers. He has been Artistic Director of MusicFest-Aberystwyth since 2001 and is the UK Chair of the International Clarinet Association.

Juliet Bucknall

Juliet was brought up in Monmouth with dogs and very musical parents. She went to the Purcell School and Junior Royal College of Music where she studied Clarinet with Angela Fussell, then continued her studies at Senior College with Colin Bradbury, Thea King and Stephen Trier. Whilst there she played the Nielsen Clarinet Concerto with the RCM Sinfonietta and won the Fredrick Thurston prize and the Roger Fallows prize. She is now busy freelancing, playing in Phantom of the Opera, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Ballet Rambert, teaching at Alleyns and as a member of Just Wind. She is also (in common with David and Jane) a founder member of the Hundwandlers. She lives in Nunhead with Katya and Mike and enjoys walking them both in Nunhead Cemetery.

Alison Hayhurst

Alison studied at Chetham's School of Music and the Guildhall School of Music. She has played principal flute with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, Orchestra of St. John's and English National Ballet, freelancing with many others. Education work and concerts with the English Chamber Orchestra took her to South Africa on two occasions, and she works regularly for the City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players and Orchestra of St. John's in education and outreach projects. She has also played principal flute for Grange Park Opera's main festival season in Hampshire for the last five years. She has been a soloist on several occasions with London Concertante at St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Since 2005 she has coached for the Kent County Youth Orchestra and has taught at Alleyn's in Dulwich since 1997. She lives with her partner Paul in Nunhead where she enjoys a rural idyll in her rose and clematis filled garden!

Rachel Ingleton

Rachel studied as a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music and went on to gain a Foundation Scholarship to study oboe and piano as joint first studies full time. She continued her studies with a Countess of Munster award and Martin Musical Scholarship.
Rachel has been a member of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields for 10 years and has travelled worldwide with them working with soloist/directors such as Murray Perahia and Joshua Bell.  She also plays regularly with the orchestra of  the Royal Opera House, the Philharmonia, and the London Symphony Orchestra.  She is currently appearing on stage in costume at the Royal Opera House in Don Giovanni!  She is a member of the trio Tri-Unique and is active performing in educational concerts all over London with the group Just Wind.  Rachel teaches the oboe at Alleyns School and St Paul’s Boys school

Fiona Bryan

Fiona has enjoyed a busy freelance career playing with many orchestras and chamber music ensembles, such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the London Sinfonietta, and now also teaches the Alexander Technique locally and at Oundle  School in  Northamptonshire.

Jane Hanna

Jane studied at Chethams School of Music, in Manchester, and the Royal Academy of Music. Her freelance career has included playing with the Philharmonia, Royal Opera House Orchestra, English National Opera, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, and the Ulster Orchestra. She also plays regularly with the Royal Ballet  and  Ballet Rambert (2nd horn) and is active  in the West End, recording studios and chamber music. She is a founder member of Just Wind (celebrating its 10th anniversary this year). She teaches Horn at Alleyns School, and Sevenoaks School in Kent. Before children (BC), she taught at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and wrote the Horn syllabus for the Guildhall exam system in the 1990s. She has 2 lovely children, Zoe and Ben (5 and 2).

Mike Stanley

Mike was born in Cumbria of Austrian parents and was brought up in North London. At the age of 7 he went to The Yehudi Menuhin School as one of its founder pupils, studying piano with Marcel Gazelle. At 17 he proceeded to the Royal Academy of Music where he studied flute with Gareth Morris, harpsichord with Geraint Jones and piano with Alexander Kelly. After leaving the Academy he went into light music and became musical director of Cats at the New London Theatre, and then assistant musical director of a new musical called Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London. He still works there 22 years on! Mike lives in Nunhead with Juliet and Katya the German Shepherd dog. His connection with dogs continues with his Corgi registration as a plumbing and heating engineer.
