The Court Lane Ensemble - 2008/2009

The Court Lane Ensemble takes many forms. This month's concert finds it in a minimalistic version of Simon Hewitt Jones and David Worswick.

The programme will include some familiar but always welcome staples of the virtuoso repertoire by the likes of Paganini and Wieniawski, not to mention Halvorsen's famous, or notorious, arrangement of the Handel Chaconne. More austere tastes will be catered for by Bach and, yes, Mozart - far fewer notes but, arguably, more music. The 20th century will supply intriguing sidelong glances on both these traditions from Berio and Schnittke, and Simon's talented composer brother Tommy will bring us bang up to date (in what we suspect will turn out to be a deplorably frivolous manner).
